Big sports or summer activities: CBD comes in handy for everyone
If summer is not the time for activity, when else is it? Long sunny days, warm bodies of water, the vacation season - literally everything sets us up for outdoor adventures and fun. However, in the midst of all this, we shouldn't forget that our bodies need care and support, and the sun, mountains, and water are also a challenge to our health.
A bottle of clean drinking water, spf cream, and CBD are reliable companions during summer adventures. If you think that cannabidiol is not so important in this list, you're wrong. It is CBD that allows you to effectively take care of your body and relieve stress after exercise, but at the same time is neither a dope nor a stimulant. A vivid confirmation: CBD is chosen by professional athletes, and they are known to be very careful about any substances that can affect their performance.
While anti-doping requirements are becoming stricter every year, CBD has been removed from the list of banned substances by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) since 2017[1]. Since then, more and more famous athletes have been discovering the auxiliary properties of cannabidiol, which, among other things, has a positive effect on sleep quality and recovery after competition[2]. In addition, CBD is involved in many processes, including controlling appetite, pain reactions, and reducing inflammation[3].
Among the famous athletes who actively declare their CBD consumption is the American mixed martial arts fighter Nate Diaz. In 2016, he shocked the MMA audience by appearing at a press conference after a fight with a CBD vape[4]. At the time, CBD use was not yet widespread, so it was a bold move. But since then, Diaz and many other athletes have proven the benefits of CBD in professional sports.
Another example is bodybuilder Kieran Kevan. He is worth mentioning, at least because it is one of the strictest sports in terms of nutritional restrictions and supplement consumption. Kieran Kevan is the champion of the United Kingdom Drug-Free Bodybuilding Association (UKDFBA) and a role model for many in the sport. He is also a popularizer of CBD, which he often mentions on his social media.
Women in sports also favor CBD. For example, Megan Rapinoe, the leader of the American soccer team and an Olympic champion, often talks about the role of CBD in pain control and uses the oil as an aid to fight inflammation, as well as to concentrate and counteract stress[5].
But let's get back to summer fun. Hawaiian surfer Albie Layer is another well-known advocate of CBD for athletes. The surfer discovered the properties of cannabidiol while recovering from an injury: it helped him cope with pain and accelerated his recovery. Since then, the athlete continues to use CBD daily and actively advises others.
